While SoftEther does provide some new features like packet obfuscation, I do find it faster on my i7 than the OpenVPN package. Here are some reasons why I prefer SoftEther over OpenVPN: I would definitely backup of your entire config file via the Diagnostics -> Backup & Restore page, at the very least, before following these instructions.
